What might get in the way of our seeing God, the world and ourselves more clearly? In Passions of the Soul, Rowan Williams explores early Christian thinking about moral and spiritual maturity, and what it might mean to become more attentive to God.
Drawing particularly on the Eastern monastic tradition, Williams considers the inner habits and desires that can shape – and sometimes distort – the way we see. Using the Beatitudes in Matthew, he invites us to reflect on what might prevent us from recognising the Kingdom: its claim on us and its promise for us.
This gathering is an opportunity to continue that reflection together. Read Passions of the Soul beforehand and come ready to share something of what it stirred in you – a thought, a question, a challenge or something you simply want to explore further.
We’ll meet in the Davies Room at St Mary’s Handbridge Centre. Passions of the Soul is available to buy online for around £6–£12.
