We started with a simple question:
What would it look like if there was a place in the city where the door was always open?

Not just open to those who already believe.
Open to the tired. Open to the curious. Open to those who aren’t sure if they belong.

Retreat House Chester grew from that question. We’re not a club. We’re not a course. We’re not a conference you tick off and move on from. We’re a rhythm, a way of making space for God and for each other.

Our spaces are simple, provisional, alive. A garden open for quiet and birdsong. A table open for food and companionship. A labyrinth open for those who need to walk before they can speak. A church open for beauty, silence, and prayer. Senses open for creativity, music, and the play of light. Mind open to questions, learning, and wonder. Heart open to compassion and truth. Life open to faith and peace, each as a verb.

We believe the spiritual runs through all things, through bread and benches, through music and laughter, through listening to someone whose story is nothing like our own. We are committed to inclusivity and accessibility. Whoever you are, whatever you bring, the invitation is open.

How we offer is provisional. We start small. We see what unfolds. We don’t have to have everything worked out. The invitation is enough.

Who offers is emerging. This isn’t a finished community. We are ever becoming who we are, learning from each other as we go.

Where we offer is ambiguous. Sometimes it’s a church, sometimes a garden, sometimes a café or a kitchen table. We don’t lock God into one place. The door is still open. Step through.
